We know that bees are responsible for making honey, but did you know that we need flies to make chocolate?
Cacao flowers smell bad and their inner structure is like a maze—the scent attracts the flies, and the complexity inside is perfect for the tiny flies (but not much else) to navigate to get nectar. These tiny flies pollinate cacao flowers!

Once the flowers are pollinated, they produce fruit. The seeds from the fruit are collected, fermented, roasted, and ground up.

The resulting paste is heated and combined with sugar and other ingredients to make… CHOCOLATE!
