Green cleaners are easy to make, effective, inexpensive, and safer for us and the environment! Many of the ingredients you need to make green cleaners can be found right in your own home, such as vinegar, baking soda, borax, castile soap, and water.
Some cleaning products you can buy contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which can end up in the air and affect the air quality of your home. Indoor air quality is often 3-5 times worse than outdoor air quality. Cleaning products are also often washed down the drain. Why might we worry about what gets washed down the drain? Where does the water that gets washed down the drain go? The water goes to a water treatment plant, and then it gets released back into our watershed! The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates cleaning products, and has created the Safer Choice program to help consumers make good choices in their purchases.
