Join us in celebrating 166 years of science and education! Help make our natural history collections available for anyone to use, and get a tour of our collections!
Our scientific collections and archives contain specimens and materials that provide data used to study biodiversity and compare how species, habitats, and the environment changes over time. At this event, we will be mounting botanical specimens for our herbarium. By participating, you can help prepare these specimens for the Academy’s scientific collection, make them accessible for study, and improve their preservation. Plus, get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of our collections facility!
Botanical specimen mounting entails handling fragile, dried plant specimens and gluing them onto sheets of cardstock paper. Some of the specimens are over 100 years old! This task requires good eyesight, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and patience. The work is not physically demanding, but can be mentally challenging.
This event is most appropriate for those 18 years and up. Registration is free.
