The New Era of Exploration: David Thoreson
August 25 | 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm$10 – $15
Join us for this engaging lecture and book signing. Plus, enter to win a signed copy of Over the Horizon by David Thoreson. Read on for details!
For centuries, explorers sailed the Earth’s northern waters searching for the Arctic’s Northwest Passage, but they were ultimately lost or turned away by massive amounts of frozen sea ice blocking the passage.
The Arctic’s changing climate has warmed the entire region, leading to less ice and the opening of the infamous passage. While less sea ice brings new sea-lanes for exploring and shipping, it also brings rapid changes to cultures and delicate ecosystems.
Learn about these opportunities and challenges from the first American to sail the Northwest Passage in both directions. Join sailor, explorer and documentary photographer, David Thoreson, as he shares his adventures and conservation stories from the planet’s most remote polar destinations through beautiful photography, engaging first-hand experiences, and an immersive exhibit.
In addition to this exciting lecture we have 20 copies of David Thoreson’s Over the Horizon book to give away! Your name will be automatically entered into the raffle to win a book at the time of registration. We will also have some books for purchase along with a cash bar at the event.
Doors will open at 5:30pm, guests will have an opportunity to explore the exhibit. There will be alcohol and other refreshments for sale. The lecture will begin at 6pm and end with Q&A from the audience. After the event David Thoreson will be available to sign autographs.
