Monarch Clubs is a multidimensional initiative that fosters collaboration with educators, youth, and community leaders who run out-of-school time (OST) programming in the summer to increase awareness and interest surrounding monarch biology, pollinator ecology, and related conservation efforts.
Monarch Clubs workshop attendees learn from experts, explore strategies to connect these topics to youth audiences, and are eligible to apply to be a youth Monarch Club location.
Monarch Club Educator Workshop
May 23rd or June 11th, 2024
Come spend an evening with the Nature Museum and learn more about local pollination ecology, monarch butterfly conservation, and the biology behind this iconic insect! Workshop attendees will learn from experts, explore strategies you can use to connect these topics to youth audiences, and are eligible to apply to be a youth Monarch Club location with extended supports from the Nature Museum – including a field trip with a bus reimbursement and museum educator visit to your club site.
Who is eligible to become a Monarch Clubs location?
Criteria considered for Monarch Clubs applicants:
- You are a non-profit, community-based organization, government agency, or school with out-of-school time programming capacities in the summer
- You are able to facilitate Monarch Clubs in July and August
- You have one or more core (regularly attending) group(s) of youth participants ages 7 to 13 years old OR you can recruit and consistently host a group
- You have a designated point person/educator in charge of out-of-school time programming (instructor, coordinator, etc.)
- You are interested in monarch and habitat conservation!
What ongoing support do Monarch Clubs locations receive?
- Training workshop with Nature Museum scientists and educators for programming staff at your organization who will be partnering on the Monarch Club partnership
- Museum staff works closely with you and your group(s) to support monarch and science-based activities based on your program specific context.
- Museum staff presents unique, interactive content to your group(s) through in-person or live remote learning lessons and virtual or in-person field trips.
- For groups with in-person summer programming, a 100% bus reimbursement for a field trip to the Nature Museum is available.
Educational resources and materials to implement inquiry-based science activities with your group(s).
Program activities are designed to be inquiry-driven and participant-centered. This hands-on learning approach is designed to involve youth, educators, as well as parents and families to foster community-wide connections to monarchs, science, and the outdoors.
